A friend of mine introduced me to Zentangle over 12 years ago during a visit to Cape Cod. She described how this form of drawing helped her relax and increase focus at home and at work, and gave me some lessons at my kitchen table. After these sessions, I felt so relaxed! It was like a massage for my brain.
Around the same time, I was dealing with some health issues which resulted in some lasting effects. Practicing this art form helped tremendously with neuropathy in my hands, and with my mental health. This form of focused drawing allowed me to give my nervous system a break, and increased my focus and sleep quality. The benefits were tremendous, and I was producing beautiful works of art while enhancing my quality of life.
With the increase in public awareness on Mindfulness, I wanted to share this drawing method with others. I did a few online workshops with my remote work team, to encourage creativity, wellness, and connection. These sessions allowed us all to admire and appreciate the creativity of our colleagues, as well build our self-confidence. It was a hit!
I became a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) so I could share this mindful drawing method with others, and help them experience the benefits to both body and mind... just like I did.
