The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. We call these patterns "tangles", which are created with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, and orbs.
Zentangle art is unplanned, so you can focus on each stroke and not worry about the end result. There is no up or down to this art form - you will create Zentangle art by rotating your paper tile as you tangle. This form of mindful drawing can help you increase focus and reduce stress. Zentangle is a fun way to create beautiful art, even if you can't draw a stick figure!
Start with the Introduction to Zentangle class to get started. In this class, we learn 4 basic tangles (patterns) and shading techniques on 3.5 square, 100% cotton white paper tiles. We will also take time to breathe, focus on pen strokes, and appreciate this mindful practice and the opportunity to create something beautiful.
Each toolkit comes with 5 cotton paper tiles, pens, graphite pencil, blending tools, sharpener, glassine sleeve for your finished artwork, and canvas Zentangle tile and tools storage pouches. Each class you take will build on this basic toolkit with specialty paper tiles, chalk pencils, highlight pencils, and color/metallic pens.
We will also take time to breathe, focus on pen strokes, and appreciate this mindful practice and the opportunity to create something beautiful. We end with a class mosaic to appreciate the beautiful differences in each person's work of art. By the time you finish the class, your mind and body will feel more relaxed and focused.
Yes! We can hold Zentangle Apprentice (for kids) workshops at your school or community group, or hold adult classes at your place of business. For more information, see the Zentangle Apprentice or the Workplace Workshops classes.
Mindfulness is the practice of consciously focusing attention on the present moment, paying attention to what’s happening right now—your thoughts, feelings, how your body feels, and the world around you—with a calm and open mind. Mindfulness helps you interrupt automatic, often negative, responses to stress and emotions.
